Ministry of Mines Recognises 7 Institutes as Centres of Excellence under Critical Minerals Mission

The Ministry of Mines has recognised seven institutes – four IITs (Bombay, Hyderabad, ISM Dhanbad, and Roorkee) and three research labs (CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar, CSIR-NML Jamshedpur, and NFTDC Hyderabad) – as Centres of Excellence (CoEs) under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM). These CoEs will focus on research and development in critical minerals that are essential for clean energy, mobility, electronics, defence, and space sectors.

Each CoE will work as a consortium in a Hub and Spoke model, bringing together over 80 industry and academic partners. The aim is to develop advanced technologies and pilot-scale projects to strengthen India’s capabilities in the critical minerals supply chain.
