Mir Mohammed Ali Appointed Director in MNRE and CMD of KSEB

Aug 11, 2025

The Government of India has appointed Mir Mohammed Ali, IAS officer from the 2011 Kerala cadre, as Director in the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the Central Staffing Scheme. His five-year tenure will begin once he assumes charge, or until further notice. The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) issued the order on August 7, 2025, instructing the Kerala government to relieve him immediately.

Simultaneously, the Kerala government has named Ali as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. (KSEB) on deputation, formalised through a government order dated May 7, 2025. This means he will be serving in a leadership role both at the state utility and at the central ministry level.

Ali, originally from Chennai, holds degrees in electronics engineering and political science, and ranked 59th in the Civil Services Examination. His career includes notable positions such as District Collector of Kannur, where he successfully led the effort to make the district India’s first plastic-disposable-free zone. His appointment is expected to bring valuable administrative experience and a strong track record in sustainable development to both MNRE and KSEB.
