Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Partners to Invest in Green Ammonia Project in Odisha
Mar 26, 2025
In a significant move towards clean energy collaboration, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five leading Japanese companies to explore investments in a green ammonia production project in Odisha, India. The initiative is in partnership with India’s ACME Group, a prominent renewable energy developer.
Project Overview
The proposed project aims to produce 400,000 tons of green ammonia annually by 2030. Green ammonia, produced using renewable energy sources, is seen as a critical solution for reducing carbon emissions in sectors like shipping, fertilizers, and power generation.
Strategic Collaboration
MOL’s commitment extends beyond production, as the company will leverage its maritime expertise to establish a stable and sustainable supply chain, ensuring the efficient transport of green ammonia from India to Japan. This collaboration is aligned with Japan’s ambitious clean energy targets, positioning the country as a pioneer in green ammonia imports.
Towards Carbon Neutrality
The project marks a key milestone in Japan’s transition to carbon neutrality and reinforces the role of India as a global hub for green energy production. With the backing of MOL and its partners, the Odisha plant will contribute to the reduction of global carbon emissions and accelerate the adoption of green ammonia as a viable energy carrier.
Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses towards its 2030 goal, shaping the future of clean energy partnerships between India and Japan.
