MNRE Adds 4.8 GW Solar Cell Capacity to ALMM List-II, Tata Power Secures Major Approvals

Sept 26, 2025

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded India’s solar manufacturing landscape by adding 4.8 GW of new solar cell capacity to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II. With this addition, the total enlisted capacity has risen to 17.88 GW.

Tata Power Renewable Energy (Tata Power) received approval for a 280 MW/year facility producing bifacial mono-crystalline PERC cells. The model offers an average efficiency of 22.89% at 7.54 W, with a performance range of 20%–23.5%.

Its subsidiary, TP Solar, secured approvals for two entries at the same site. The first covers 53 MW/year of mono-crystalline TOPCon bifacial solar cells, with average efficiency of 23.3% and wattage of 7.71 W. The second approval is for 4.4 GW/year of mono PERC bifacial solar cells, offering 23.25?ficiency and 7.69 W output.

The first ALMM List-II, issued in August 2025, had enlisted nine domestic manufacturers with 13,067 MW annual capacity. From September 1, 2025, all tenders must use modules compliant with ALMM List-II. Additionally, from June 1, 2028, India plans to mandate the use of India-made wafers and ingots to strengthen the domestic solar value chain.
