Jun 24, 2025
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced the Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge focused on Rooftop Solar (RTS) and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) technologies. Launched during the National Conference on Skill Development for the Renewable Energy Workforce at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi, the challenge aims to identify breakthrough innovations that can transform India’s RTS and DRE landscape.
Implemented in coordination with StartUp India and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and supported by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), the challenge invites applications across four categories: affordability, climate resilience, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability. Key themes include modular and low-cost solar systems, cybersecurity for solar infrastructure, community solar solutions, and circular economy models like solar panel recycling.
Open to startups in green tech, AI, blockchain, fintech, waste management, and more, the challenge offers a prize pool of Rs2.3 crore. The top three winners will receive Rs1 crore, Rs50 lakh, and Rs30 lakh respectively, along with 10 consolation prizes of Rs5 lakh each. Winners will also gain access to incubation, pilot opportunities, and mentorship. Applications close on August 20, 2025, and results will be announced on September 10.
