MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi Visits Greenko’s World-First Gigawatt-Scale Integrated RE Storage Project

Apr 19, 2025

The Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, visited Greenko’s Integrated Renewable Energy Project (IREP) in Pinnapuram, Kurnool, today, lauding it as a milestone in India’s clean energy journey. The project is the world’s first and largest gigawatt-scale integrated renewable energy storage facility, featuring a combined storage capacity of 10,080 MWh/day delivered through a blend of 4000 MW solar, 1000 MW wind, and 1680 MW pumped hydro.

This pioneering facility enables on-demand, carbon-free power for hard-to-abate sectors like steel and aluminium, strengthening India’s push for industrial decarbonisation. During the visit, Shri Joshi praised the ambitious scale and swift execution of the project, underlining its importance in achieving India’s climate goals and setting a global benchmark in renewable energy innovation.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Greenko’s Group CEO & MD, presented the vision behind the project, highlighting Greenko’s Intelligent RE Cloud Storage platform that is integrating multiple pumped storage projects nationwide. The company is targeting the creation of a 100 GWh/day cloud storage platform by 2030, a step that could revolutionize energy reliability and flexibility across India’s renewable ecosystem.

Greenko’s IREP is not just a technological breakthrough but also a symbol of India’s leadership in global energy transformation, proving that large-scale, integrated storage can be the backbone of a carbon-free industrial future.
