MNRE Updates ALMM: Adds 2.9 GW Module Capacity, Reliance Joins the List
Jun 09, 2025
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded India’s solar manufacturing base by adding 2,988 MW of solar module capacity to its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). With this update, the total approved module manufacturing capacity has reached 90,959 MW, and the number of enlisted manufacturers has risen to 105.
A significant highlight is Reliance Industries’ entry into the list with a capacity of 1,716 MW, signaling its growing commitment to clean energy. Avaada Electro also expanded its capacity by 1,272 MW. On the other hand, SASA Energy’s capacity was revised downward from 100 MW to 98 MW.
In May, MNRE had added 8,653 MW of module capacity and clarified that net billing, virtual net metering, and group net metering will be treated equivalently to net metering under ALMM List-II. It also differentiated PID (Potential Induced Degradation) and non-PID solar cells as separate product categories and reduced the minimum efficiency requirement for off-grid crystalline silicon modules from 19% to 18%, while keeping cadmium telluride (CdTe) efficiency unchanged.
India added 25.3 GW of solar module and 11.6 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity in 2024. This growth is largely attributed to strong demand from ongoing solar projects and the reinstatement of the ALMM mandate from April 2024.
