National Conference on Sustainable Cooling & Energy Efficiency Held in New Delhi

The National Conference on ‘Sustainable Cooling and Doubling the Rate of Energy Efficiency Improvement’ took place in New Delhi on February 21-22, 2025. The event was organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Power Foundation of India (PFI) under the Ministry of Power.

Key Announcements & Highlights:
  • Doubling Energy Efficiency Improvement Rate: India aims to increase its energy intensity improvement rate from 2.5% (2024) to 4% by 2030, as per the IEA estimates.
  • Launch of 'India Energy Scenario 2023-24' Report: A comprehensive analysis of India’s energy landscape and sustainability progress.
  • Energy-Efficient Retrofit Manuals: Guidelines for commercial and residential buildings to enhance energy efficiency.
  • Focus on Sustainable Cooling: Addressing the rising demand for energy-efficient cooling solutions.
India’s Progress in Energy Efficiency & Decarbonization:
  • Non-fossil fuel capacity reached 47.15%
  • Emission intensity reduced by 36% (ahead of targets)
  • G20 & COP28 Commitments: Reinforced urgency in global energy efficiency efforts.

The event brought together over 50 speakers and 250 delegates, including policymakers, industry leaders, and global organizations such as IEA, SE4All, TERI, CEEW, AEEE, CLASP, and ICCT. Thematic discussions covered Buildings, Appliances, Industry, Transport, Investments, and Cooling Technologies.

With rising energy demand from AI, data centers, and industrial growth, this conference emphasized the need for structured policies, financing mechanisms, and global collaboration to achieve India’s energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
