NHPC and GTA Inaugurate Darjeeling Hill Institute of Technology & Management

On 27 August 2025, the Darjeeling Hill Institute of Technology and Management was inaugurated at Takdah, Darjeeling, in the presence of Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC, and Shri Anit Thapa, Chief Executive, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). The institute, established under NHPC’s CSR initiative in collaboration with GTA, is the first technical degree college in West Bengal under PPP mode. Its primary goal is to provide quality higher education and skill development opportunities for the local youth of the region.

In its first phase, the Institute is offering B.Tech programs in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI & ML), along with a Bachelor’s in Hotel Management. Plans for further academic and infrastructure expansion are already in place to cater to future demands.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Uttam Lal emphasized NHPC’s dual role in advancing India’s green energy mission while also contributing to regional development through education. He expressed confidence that students trained here will contribute significantly to the nation’s growth.

The event was attended by senior officials from NHPC, GTA, and the Government of West Bengal, marking a new chapter in the region’s educational and developmental journey.
