NHPC CMD Advocates Balanced Growth and Sustainability at ET India Net Zero Forum 2025

Sh. R.K. Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC, addressed the Economic Times India Net Zero Forum 2025 in New Delhi on June 18, emphasizing the need to harmonize development with sustainability. He highlighted that achieving net zero emissions is not solely about emission reduction but involves a complete transformation of energy systems, industries, cities, and daily lifestyles for a greener future.

He stressed that hydroelectric and pumped storage projects contribute significantly to decarbonization by increasing forest cover through Catchment Area Treatment (CAT) and Compensatory Afforestation, effectively aiding carbon capture. These environmental co-benefits underline hydro’s role in the broader net zero roadmap.

CMD Chaudhary called for unified and determined efforts in combating climate change, stating that “Net Zero is not just a target but a necessity for the future.” He reiterated NHPC’s commitment to climate goals and highlighted the necessity of collaborative action across stakeholders to ensure long-term energy security and ecological balance.
