NSEFI Highlights India’s Role in Building Resilient Solar PV Supply Chains
Aug 25, 2025
At a panel discussion on “Building Resilient and Inclusive Solar PV Supply Chains for a Sustainable Energy Future”, organized by IRENA, International Solar Alliance, and the Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Mr. P.C. Garg, Principal Advisor of NSEFI (National Solar Energy Federation of India), shared India’s key achievements and future roadmap for solar energy.
India has already reached an impressive 119 GW of installed solar capacity. To strengthen its domestic ecosystem, the country has also developed 100 GW of solar manufacturing capacity under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). Additionally, through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, India is building an integrated manufacturing pipeline of 50 GW by 2026.
Mr. Garg highlighted the importance of India-Australia collaboration in research and development (R&D), particularly in upstream manufacturing. India’s advantage of lower workforce and electricity costs provides a strong base for scaling production and supporting Global South nations in their clean energy transition.
The discussion also emphasized the need for joint ventures in R&D, innovation, and technology co-development at both regional and global levels, reinforcing India’s vision of becoming a hub for sustainable solar manufacturing.
