NTPC Commissions India's First Super Critical Plant with Air Cooled Condenser

NTPC has achieved a significant milestone with the commissioning of India’s first Super Critical plant featuring an Air Cooled Condenser at North Karanpura, Jharkhand, in March 2023. This 660 MW unit stands out for its water efficiency, using just one-third the amount of water compared to conventional systems, leading to an annual saving of 30.5 million cubic metres of water—enough to meet the needs of approximately 1.5 million people.

This innovation underscores NTPC’s dedication to sustainable power generation, particularly in the area of water conservation. The initiative is part of NTPC’s broader strategy of reducing water usage by adopting principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, all while continuing to advance responsible energy generation.
