NTPC Green Energy Commissions 12.5 MW Solar Project in Gujarat

Oct 19, 2025

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC, has begun commercial operations of a 12.5 MW solar power project at Bhuj in Gujarat. This marks the first phase of a 37.5 MW solar project being developed by Ayana Renewable Power Four, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power.

Commercial operations for the new capacity commenced on October 17, 2025. Ayana Renewable Power is fully owned by ONGC NTPC Green, a joint venture between Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and NTPC.

With this addition, NGEL’s total commercial capacity has reached 7,407.475 MW, while the group’s total installed capacity now stands at 7,419.975 MW. NGEL currently operates 34 commissioned projects, with 38 more under execution, bringing its renewable energy portfolio to 3.6 GW.

The company is developing over 11 GW of renewable and hydro projects, with another 20 GW under tendering.

Earlier this year, NGEL also commissioned 100 MW from IRCON Renewable Power’s 500 MW project at Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka. Additionally, the company has invited expressions of interest for new projects, including a 5 MW solar system with a 4 MW/12 MWh battery storage and a 20 MW floating solar plant in Great Nicobar Island.

NGEL’s expansion aligns with India’s national renewable energy goals, backed by the government’s recent approval allowing central public sector enterprises to invest up to Rs 270 billion (~$3.14 billion) in their green energy subsidiaries.
