NTPC Green Energy Floats EPC Tender for 80 MW/320 MWh BESS in Kerala
Aug 20, 2025
NTPC Green Energy has issued a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of 80 MW/320 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) at Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) substations in Pothencode and Sreekantapuram. The last date for bid submission is September 16, 2025, with bids opening on the same day.
The project is split into two blocks—40 MW/160 MWh each—where bidders can apply for one or both. The earnest money deposit is Rs20 million for a single block and Rs50 million for both. Eligibility conditions require bidders to have prior experience with BESS projects of at least 80 MWh in total capacity, with one operational system of 20 MWh or higher running for at least six months. Alternatives include experience in solar or wind projects (minimum 40 MW cumulative), technical collaborations with qualified battery manufacturers, or large-scale industrial projects worth over Rs981 million.
Financially, bidders must show a turnover of Rs981 million over the last three years and maintain a net worth equal to or higher than their paid-up share capital.
This tender follows NTPC Green Energy’s July win of the same projects at tariffs of Rs434,000/MW/month (Sreekantapuram) and Rs457,000/MW/month (Pothencode). India’s BESS capacity surged in 2024, with 341 MWh installed compared to just 51 MWh in 2023.
