NTPC REL Floats EPC Tender for 56 MW Floating Solar with 60 MW/240 MWh BESS in Jharkhand
May 03, 2025
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. (NTPC REL) has invited bids for an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) package to develop a 56 MW floating solar power project integrated with a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its North Karanpura facility in Chatra, Jharkhand. The bid submission deadline is June 24, 2024, with openings scheduled on the same day.
The turnkey project requires bidders to deliver a fully functional and grid-connected floating solar plant with integrated BESS. The comprehensive scope includes design, engineering, supply, transport, construction, erection, testing, commissioning, and integration with the existing 220 kV switchyard, extending to the 400/220 kV interconnection point. The project allows for either AC- or DC-coupled BESS housed in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)-compliant containers, with a minimum DC capacity of 5 MWh per unit.
The BESS must be designed for a 15-year operational life, support daily single-cycle use, and meet minimum performance guarantees related to discharge capacity and round-trip efficiency. It must also incorporate all key subsystems like battery management, energy management, SCADA, communication, transformers, fire safety systems, and monitoring tools, all in line with current technical standards.
Additionally, the selected contractor must provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the BESS over 15 years, and for the floating solar and associated evacuation infrastructure for at least five years. The tender also emphasizes the importance of minimum guaranteed generation, robust documentation, operator training, and extended warranties for all major components. This tender follows NTPC REL’s March 2025 EPC tender for developing 550 MW ISTS-connected solar projects with BESS in Rajasthan, further underscoring its aggressive push into advanced solar and storage solutions across India.
