NTPC Renewable Energy Floats EPC Tender for 56 MW Floating Solar + 60 MW/240 MWh BESS Project

May 05, 2025

NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd has released an EPC tender for a 56 MW floating solar project integrated with a 60 MW/240 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its North Karanpura facility in Chatra, Jharkhand. The tender marks a significant step in India's hybrid renewable infrastructure development, combining solar energy generation with robust energy storage for improved grid stability and round-the-clock power availability.

The project scope includes complete turnkey execution — from design and engineering to supply, transport, construction, testing, and commissioning. The selected bidder must deliver a fully functional and grid-connected floating solar + BESS system. The integration with the existing 220 kV switchyard and interconnection at the 400/220 kV point is also part of the scope, ensuring seamless transmission compatibility.

Bids must be submitted by June 24, 2025, and will be opened on the same day. This hybrid project aligns with NTPC's growing focus on diversified renewable deployments and reinforces its ambition to lead the energy transition through innovative and sustainable solutions.

The tender signals increased momentum for floating solar and energy storage hybrid models in India, supporting reliability in regions with land constraints while enhancing grid flexibility — a critical element in India's clean energy trajectory.
