NTPC Renewable Energy Partners with Gujarat Government to Develop 15 GW Renewable Projects

Oct 10, 2025

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to develop 15 GW of renewable energy projects, comprising 10 GW of solar and 5 GW of wind capacity across the state.

The MoU was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference 2025, held in Mehsana, Gujarat, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat’s Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Kanubhai Desai, and NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh.

In addition to this agreement, the NTPC Group has also signed another MoU with the Gujarat Government to jointly explore new opportunities across conventional and non-conventional energy sectors, strengthening its long-term partnership with the state.

As India’s largest integrated power producer, NTPC currently contributes about one-fourth of the nation’s electricity needs, with an installed capacity exceeding 83 GW. The company is expanding rapidly, with over 30.9 GW under construction, including 13.3 GW of renewable capacity, and aims to achieve 60 GW of green energy capacity by 2032 in line with India’s Net Zero commitment.

In a statement, NTPC highlighted its diverse generation portfolio spanning thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power, emphasizing its commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy. The company also continues to advance in emerging technologies and green initiatives such as e-mobility, battery and pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear, and green hydrogen.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in Gujarat’s renewable energy ambitions and reinforces NTPC’s leadership role in driving India’s clean energy transition.
