NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s 500 MW BESS Auction in Rajasthan Sees L1 Tariff of Rs2.16 Lakh/MW/Month

Jun 23, 2025

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) has concluded its auction for 500 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) connected to the Rajasthan State Transmission Utility (STU), attracting a lowest bid (L1 tariff) of Rs2.16 lakh/MW/month. The auction winners include Solar91 Cleantech (50 MW at L1 tariff), Rays Power Experts (50 MW at Rs2.187 lakh/MW/month), Stockwell Solar Services (225 MW), Oriana Power (125 MW), and Inox Renewable Solutions (50 MW at Rs2.19 lakh/MW/month), all selected through the bucket filling method.

The tender, floated in March 2025, mandates developers to set up the projects under a build-own-operate (BOO) model with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of Rs27 lakh/MWh or 30% of the project cost, whichever is lower. BESS developers (BESSDs) are responsible for interconnecting the system with the STU network, including bay construction.

Each system must provide two full operational cycles daily and maintain a minimum 95% system availability monthly. The BESS will be available for NVVN’s use on an on-demand basis, supporting the grid with essential balancing capacity as renewable penetration increases in Rajasthan’s energy mix.
