OMC Power Partners with ISA and Ethiopian Government for Nationwide Minigrid Expansion

Aug 21, 2025

OMC Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Government of Ethiopia to develop and operate solar-powered minigrids in Waro village. The initiative, which will provide reliable and sustainable electricity to over 11,000 residents, is set to expand to 1,000 sites across Ethiopia in the coming years.

The project aims to deliver clean, affordable, and dependable energy, fostering economic development and improving quality of life in rural communities. OMC Power will deploy its well-established Anchor-Business-Community (ABC) model, which integrates advanced automation, remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and efficient energy distribution to ensure long-term sustainability without relying on subsidies.

“Access to clean power is not a privilege but a fundamental right for every household, school, clinic, and enterprise. With this initiative, communities like Waro will experience transformative change, unlocking new opportunities for growth, infrastructure development, and women empowerment,” the company stated.

OMC Power has already implemented similar projects across multiple villages, where electrification has spurred local businesses, healthcare access, and education. The partnership with ISA and the Ethiopian government is expected to accelerate nationwide electrification and position Ethiopia as a model for community-driven renewable energy adoption in Africa.
