Piramal Pharma Adopts Renewable Biomass Briquettes to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Piramal Pharma has transitioned its coal-fired steam boiler at its Digwal manufacturing facility to biomass briquettes, a renewable fuel made from agricultural waste. This shift will cut approximately 24,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, representing 17% of the company’s total emissions.
The move aligns with its sustainability target of reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030. Chairperson Nandini Piramal emphasized the company's commitment to environmental sustainability, while CEO Peter DeYoung highlighted the role of renewable energy in setting industry standards for eco-friendly pharmaceutical manufacturing.
