PM Modi Champions Energy Security, Global South, and AI Responsibility at G7 Outreach Session
Jun 19, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the G7 Outreach Session in Kananaskis, emphasizing India’s leadership in global energy security, sustainability, and its advocacy for the Global South. Speaking on the theme “Energy Security: Diversification, Technology and Infrastructure,” Modi laid out India's four A’s approach—availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability—as the foundation of its energy strategy. He highlighted that India has met its Paris Agreement climate goals ahead of time and is spearheading global sustainability through key initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuels Alliance, and Mission LiFE.
Modi also raised concerns about the rising geopolitical instability disproportionately impacting the Global South, reaffirming India’s commitment to voicing their concerns internationally. Addressing the intersection of technology and energy, he acknowledged artificial intelligence’s potential while cautioning against its high energy consumption, calling for clean energy innovation and secure critical mineral supply chains. He also advocated for global governance on responsible AI development.
On security, Modi strongly condemned terrorism, referencing the Pahalgam attack as an affront to humanity and urging zero tolerance toward terrorism-supporting nations. He pressed world leaders to abandon double standards and adopt a unified stance against terror threats. The session, hosted by Canadian PM Mark Carney, marked the 50th G7 anniversary.
