PM Modi Lays Foundation for 500 MWh Battery Storage in Bihar; Unveils Projects Worth Rs5,200 Cr

Jun 23, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over Rs5,200 crore in Siwan, Bihar. A significant highlight was the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), to be installed across 15 grid substations including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan. The battery capacities at each substation will range from 20 MWh to 80 MWh, aiming to reduce electricity costs for distribution companies by feeding stored power into the grid during peak demand, thereby benefiting consumers.

The PM also inaugurated the Vaishali–Deoria railway line project worth Rs400 crore and flagged off a new train service on this route. Furthermore, he flagged off the Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, enhancing regional connectivity.

In addition, he laid the foundation for water supply, sanitation, and sewage treatment projects valued at over Rs3,000 crore across several towns in Bihar, targeting improved access to clean drinking water.

Later in Odisha, the Prime Minister flagged off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) initiative, contributing to sustainable and modern urban mobility infrastructure. These developments underscore the government’s focus on energy security, clean mobility, and infrastructure advancement.
