Jun 30, 2025
Sh. R.K. Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director of POWERGRID, along with senior officials including Sh. Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra (Director, Projects), Sh. Tarun Bajaj (ED, NR-II), Sh. V. S. Bhal (ED, CMG-CC), and Sh. L. K. Khajkumar (ED, CP), inaugurated the tower foundation works for the 66 kV double circuit (D/C) Kharu-Tangtse transmission line in Ladakh.
This critical infrastructure is being developed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) consultancy works, with POWERGRID executing the project at an estimated cost exceeding Rs1,200 crore. The transmission line aims to strengthen power distribution and enhance grid reliability in the strategically important and remote Ladakh region.
The project is expected to improve electricity access for civilian populations and support critical defense establishments in the high-altitude region. It is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize power infrastructure in border areas and integrate remote regions into the national grid. Once completed, the Kharu-Tangtse line will significantly boost local development and energy security, supporting both residential and strategic applications.
