POWERGRID Secures LOI for 765 kV Parli New–Bidar Transmission Project

Oct 03, 2025

Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has received a letter of intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) to develop a 765 kV interstate transmission system (ISTS) connecting Parli New in Maharashtra and Bidar in Karnataka. The project, awarded on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis, includes a double circuit transmission line, construction of two 765 kV line bays at each end, and 240 MVAr static line reactors at Bidar pooling station (PS).

The Bidar 765/400/220 kV PS is being developed to support 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity, with equal connectivity already sanctioned at the 220 kV level. The project forms part of India’s broader transmission expansion plan to improve southern–western grid connectivity and facilitate large-scale renewable energy evacuation.

POWERGRID’s responsibilities span survey, design, financing, permits, land acquisition, construction, testing, commissioning, and 35 years of operations and maintenance, after which assets will be transferred to the Central Transmission Utility at no cost.

This is among several recent LOIs awarded to POWERGRID. In August, it received an LOI for ISTS in Karnataka, while earlier projects in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan were also sanctioned, cumulatively valued at Rs107.5 billion.
