POWERGRID Secures Transmission Project for 4.5 GW Renewable Evacuation
Mar 08, 2025
Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from PFC Consulting to develop an interstate transmission system (ISTS) at Kurnool-III PS, Andhra Pradesh, to facilitate the evacuation of 4.5 GW of renewable energy.
Project Scope
- Augmentation of transformation capacity at the Kurnool-III substation.
- Extension works at the C’peta substation.
- Construction of a 765 kV direct current transmission line.
- Establishment, operation, and maintenance under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model.
- Survey, DPR formulation, financing, approvals, and clearances for the project.
This project is part of POWERGRID’s growing portfolio of renewable energy evacuation infrastructure. The company has recently secured multiple transmission projects worth Rs10,750 crore from REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) for evacuating power from Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh Renewable Energy Zones (REZs).
Recent Wins by POWERGRID
- Transmission system for Rajasthan REZ Phase-V.
- Substation capacity augmentation in Banaskantha, Gujarat.
- Integration of Kurnool-IV REZ Phase-I.
- ISTS project to evacuate 8 GW of renewable energy from Gujarat (Khavda REZ Phase-V).
POWERGRID’s expanding transmission network is critical to integrating large-scale renewable energy into India’s grid, supporting the country’s ambitious energy transition goals.
