Premier Energies Partners with RENA Technologies to Advance N-Type and Tandem Solar Cell Innovation

Apr 15, 2025

In a significant step toward next-generation solar manufacturing, Premier Energies Limited has entered into a strategic technology partnership with Germany-based RENA Technologies GmbH, focusing on innovation in N-Type solar cells and the development of wet chemistry solutions for tandem cell technologies.

This collaboration combines Premier Energies’ large-scale manufacturing strength with RENA’s expertise in advanced wet chemistry and high-efficiency production equipment, aiming to drive breakthroughs in solar cell performance, sustainable processes, and throughput optimization.

Focus on Process and Sustainability

The partnership will accelerate research and development on N-Type solar technologies, which offer superior efficiency and durability compared to traditional P-Type cells. It will also support Premier’s ambitions to explore tandem cell structures, a key frontier in achieving ultra-high photovoltaic conversion efficiencies.

“This partnership positions Premier at the forefront of the N-Type efficiency curve and sets the stage for our evolution into tandem technologies,” said Sudhir Reddy, Director and Chief Strategy Officer at Premier Energies.

Chandra Mauli Kumar, Chief Production Officer, added: “Strategic collaborations with equipment manufacturers like RENA are crucial for India’s solar sector to remain globally competitive.” Strengthening Global-Local Synergies RENA Technologies, a global leader in equipment and wet process technology for solar cell production, sees the partnership as an opportunity to support the rapidly expanding Indian solar manufacturing ecosystem.

“This collaboration allows us to work closely with a top-tier Indian manufacturer to deliver better performance, reduce consumable usage, and lower the carbon footprint of solar cell production,” said Peter Schneidewind, CEO of RENA.

Sebastian Kress, COO, emphasized the importance of proximity to India’s dynamic market: “This is a strategic step for us to deepen our role as a global equipment provider and innovation leader in solar technology.”

This Premier–RENA alliance is poised to accelerate India’s solar cell innovation journey, aligning with national goals to scale up domestic manufacturing and lead the way in high-efficiency, low-carbon solar technologies.
