REC Power Development and Consultancy Invites Bids for Rs229 Cr ISTS Project in Karnataka to Strengthen Renewable Integration

May 17, 2025

REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) has issued a tender for setting up an interstate transmission system (ISTS) in Karnataka’s Davanagere and Chitradurga districts to integrate expanding renewable energy generation. The project, aimed at accommodating additional capacity beyond the current 2 GW under development, will be implemented on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. Bids are due by July 18, 2025.

The project involves installing four 500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs at the Davanagere pooling station and augmenting the Davanagere/Chitradurga PS with a 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV ICT, including associated bays. Two 220 kV line bays will also be added to handle transmission from upcoming RE projects. The scheduled commercial operation date for the key 765/400 kV ICT is set for 24 months from award.

Key financial requirements for bidders include a document fee of Rs500,000, a bid bond of Rs7.8 crore, and a performance guarantee of Rs19.5 crore. The scope covers complete EPC execution, financing, commissioning, and 35 years of operation and maintenance, after which the assets will be transferred at zero cost to the Central Transmission Utility.

Eligible bidders must have completed projects worth at least Rs500 crore in the past five years or received equivalent payments, with each project valued over Rs100 crore. A minimum net worth of Rs250 crore over the last three years is mandatory, with no year showing negative net worth.

This follows RECPDCL’s earlier invitation for an intrastate transmission project in Karnataka’s Belagavi district, further underscoring the region’s growing renewable energy infrastructure demands.
