Reliance Industries Accelerates Solar and Green Hydrogen Manufacturing in Gujarat
Apr 29, 2025
Reliance Industries has started production at its massive solar module factory in Gujarat. The facility can initially produce 10 GW of solar modules every year and can expand up to 20 GW. It focuses on making powerful 720 Wp Heterojunction Technology (HJT) modules. The factory covers the complete manufacturing process — from raw material (polysilicon) to finished solar panels — making Reliance fully self-reliant. Spread over 5,000 acres, the plant uses advanced automation, including machines from Reliance’s partner Adverb, to improve quality and efficiency.
Besides solar modules, Reliance is also setting up a huge 30 GW battery manufacturing facility to produce cells and battery storage systems. Earlier this year, Reliance New Energy Battery signed an agreement with the Ministry of Heavy Industries to receive incentives under the PLI scheme for 15 GWh of battery capacity.
Reliance has also bought land in Kutch, Gujarat, to build large solar power projects expected to generate 150 billion units of electricity, starting around 2027-28. A new transmission line is under construction to carry this electricity.
In addition, Reliance is investing heavily in green hydrogen. It plans to build electrolyzer factories with Nel ASA and has won a tender to manufacture 300 MW of electrolyzer capacity through SECI.
