Reliance Industries to Build Transmission Network for Green Hydrogen Projects in Gujarat

Apr 29, 2025

Reliance Industries has won PFC Consulting’s tender to set up a transmission system to evacuate 3 GW of power for green hydrogen and ammonia projects in the Kandla area of Gujarat. The tender was issued in October 2024. Reliance will acquire 100% ownership of Kandla GHA Transmission (KGTL) for ?200 million (~$2.3 million) by June 2025. After the acquisition, KGTL will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance.

Other big companies like Adani Energy Solutions, Power Grid Corporation, Tata Power, and Resonia also qualified but did not win. Reliance will handle the full design, engineering, construction, and operation of the transmission system on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. It will also take care of surveys, permits, financing, and land compensation.

The project will be transferred back to the government for free after 35 years. All work must follow strict rules and service agreements set by the Central Government.

This move supports Reliance’s larger clean energy plans. Recently, they also acquired Lakadia B Power Transmission to evacuate 3.5 GW of renewable power and partnered with other companies to develop 2,000 MW of solar projects integrated with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage capacity.
