Reliance Infra Wins NHPC Solar Plus Storage Project
Aug 20, 2025
Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure has secured a major win in India’s renewable sector by bagging a Letter of Award (LOA) from state-owned NHPC for a large-scale solar and battery storage project. The project involves 700 MWp of solar DC capacity coupled with 780 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with an overall size of 390 MW ISTS-connected solar power.
The project was awarded at a tariff of ?3.13 per unit, making it one of the most competitive renewable-plus-storage projects in India. Once commissioned, it will establish Reliance as the country’s largest integrated player in the solar-plus-storage space, with a portfolio exceeding 3 GWp of solar and 3.5 GWh of storage capacity.
NHPC’s tender drew strong interest, with 15 participants and 14 qualifying for the e-reverse auction. The tender was oversubscribed nearly four times, reflecting rising demand for dispatchable renewable energy solutions in India.
Reliance Power, another group entity, already operates close to 2.5 GWp of solar and 2.5 GWh of storage. This new win strengthens Reliance Group’s position in clean energy and marks a significant step toward meeting India’s growing need for affordable, reliable, and round-the-clock renewable power.
