Reliance NU Suntech to Develop Asia's Largest Integrated Solar and Battery Storage Project
May 02, 2025
Reliance Power’s subsidiary, Reliance NU Suntech, has announced plans to develop and commission Asia's largest integrated solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project within 24 months. The ambitious project represents a capital investment of up to INR 10,000 crore and will significantly enhance the scalability and long-term value of Reliance Power's green energy portfolio.
The project, located in India, will supply 930 MW of solar power integrated with 465 MW/1,860 MWh of battery storage, under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The PPA stipulates a fixed tariff of INR 3.53/kWh. To meet this target, Reliance NU Suntech will deploy over 1,700 MWp of solar generation capacity. This project is part of SECI’s Tranche XVII auction, awarded after a competitive bidding process in December 2024.
Reliance Power has already secured a Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) of INR 378 crore, with the entire process—from auction to PPA signing—being completed in under five months. This project underscores Reliance Power's commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy goals while reinforcing its position as a key player in the nation’s green energy transition.
