RERC Extends PPAs for Wind Projects in Jaisalmer at Rs2.44/kWh
Aug 27, 2025
The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) has approved a petition by Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Ltd (RUVITL) to extend its power purchase agreements (PPAs) for two wind projects in Jaisalmer district. The projects—2.5 MW (2x1.25 MW) and 1.25 MW—will now continue for another five years, until September 2029, at a tariff of Rs2.44/kWh.
The original PPAs were signed in 2004 and expired in September 2024. RUVITL requested an extension citing that Rajasthan’s distribution companies (DISCOMs) face a renewable purchase obligation (RPO) shortfall. The developers also provided consent letters agreeing to the discovered tariff.
The Commission acknowledged that DISCOMs are struggling to meet their RPOs and emphasized that the extension would help bridge this gap. It also referred to its earlier directives from 2020 and 2021, which required DISCOMs to take proactive steps to meet their renewable energy targets.
With this approval, the PPAs will remain valid for five more years from the expiry date or until 25 years from the projects’ commercial operation date, whichever is earlier.
This move highlights RERC’s supportive stance in helping Rajasthan achieve renewable energy compliance and maintain affordable tariffs for wind energy.
