Rs447 Cr Allocated by Madhya Pradesh to Empower Farmers with Solar Pumps under PM-KUSUM

Apr 08, 2025

The Madhya Pradesh government has allocated Rs447 crore for the solar pump initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Krishak Mitra Surya Yojana, as announced by State Finance Minister Jagdish Devda in the 2025–26 state budget. This initiative is part of the broader PM-KUSUM national mission, which focuses on promoting renewable energy in agriculture.

The scheme is designed to equip 40 lakh farmers with solar-powered irrigation pumps, significantly reducing dependency on grid electricity or diesel. Farmers will benefit from a minimum 30% subsidy on the cost of installation, making the transition to solar more affordable and accessible.

Beyond supporting agriculture, the scheme is expected to irrigate over 6.57 lakh hectares of farmland and ensure drinking water access to 44 lakh people across the state. These dual goals highlight the program’s importance in both improving farm productivity and addressing water accessibility in rural areas.

As of March 2025, 59,400 applications have been approved, and 7,325 farmers have already received solar pumps, marking a solid start to the rollout. This move reflects the state's commitment to cleaner energy, sustainable agriculture, and farmer empowerment.
