Sembcorp Wins 150 MW Solar + 300 MWh BESS Project from SJVN, Boosting India Portfolio to 6.3 GW
May 31, 2025
Sembcorp Industries, through its subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra (SGIPL), has secured a Letter of Award from SJVN for a 150 MW solar power project integrated with a 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This win is part of SJVN's larger 1.2 GW Inter State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar tender that includes a total BESS capacity of 600 MW/2.4 GWh.
Once the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is executed, the project will supply solar power and provide four hours of peak demand support daily via its BESS. Commercial operations are expected within 24 months of signing the PPA, with the project being funded through a combination of internal accruals and debt financing.
This marks Sembcorp’s second hybrid solar-plus-storage project in India, further strengthening its presence in the country’s renewable energy sector. With this addition, Sembcorp's total renewables portfolio in India now stands at 6.3 GW. Globally, the company’s renewable capacity has reached 17.7 GW, inclusive of pending acquisitions. The project highlights Sembcorp’s growing role in addressing India’s peak power challenges through flexible, clean energy solutions.
