SJVN Green Energy Commissions 128.88 MW in Rajasthan as India’s Solar Capacity Surges
Oct 03, 2025
SJVN Green Energy, a subsidiary of SJVN, has begun commercial operations of 128.88 MW from its 1,000 MW Bikaner solar project in Rajasthan. With this, the project’s commissioned capacity has reached 629 MW, while the remaining capacity is expected to follow soon.
Rajasthan continues to lead India’s large-scale solar growth, contributing 33.7% of installations in Q2 2025. The state recently proposed a regulatory amendment requiring energy storage systems (ESS) for all renewable energy projects above 5 MW capacity, mandating at least 5% storage for two hours (excluding hydropower projects).
India added a record 11.3 GW of solar capacity in Q2 2025, marking a 145.4% year-over-year increase and a 66.9% rise over Q1 2025. Solar accounted for 64% of new capacity additions during the quarter, driven by regulatory deadlines, ISTS waiver benefits, and higher demand for round-the-clock renewable supply from distribution companies.
As of June 2025, India’s cumulative installed solar capacity stood at 116.4 GW, with large-scale projects contributing 86% and rooftop solar 14%. Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Karnataka together account for 60% of large-scale capacity, while NTPC and its subsidiaries lead with over 8 GW operational and 14 GW pipeline capacity.
