SMA Solar to Cut 350 Jobs Amid Weak Residential Demand and Restructuring Drive
Oct 07, 2025
Germany-based solar inverter manufacturer SMA Solar Technology has announced plans to cut around 300 full-time positions in Germany and 50 internationally as part of a major restructuring effort. The move comes in response to declining residential solar demand and rising price pressures in its Home and Business Solutions division. Discussions with employee representatives have begun, with formal negotiations expected to conclude by November 2025, and job reductions set to start in January 2026.
According to CEO Jürgen Reinert, the restructuring aims to generate over €100 million (~$117 million) in additional savings. While the company’s large-scale project division continues to perform strongly, CFO Kaveh Rouhi noted a sharp decline in residential installations, particularly in Germany, compared to 2024 levels. The company plans to rebalance its operations to ensure long-term stability across both divisions.
SMA Solar will now focus on strengthening its technical expertise, especially in cybersecurity, quality, and integrated renewable solutions, while optimizing its global production network. In the first half of 2025, sales in the Home and Business Solutions segment dropped 48.1% to €116.1 million. Overall, SMA Solar’s revenue fell 9.4% year-over-year in Q1 2025, continuing the downward trend from 2024’s 19.7?cline.
