Star Trade Signs PPA with Lightsource bp for 115 MWp Fishery Solar Project in Taiwan

Jun 28, 2025

Star Trade, a subsidiary of HD Renewable Energy (HDRE), has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Lightsource bp for the full offtake of its 115 MWp fishery solar project in Chiayi, Taiwan. The project, named Budai, is Lightsource bp’s flagship solar development in the region and broke ground in June 2025. Once operational, it will supply up to 180,000 MWh of clean energy annually.

This agreement marks Star Trade’s first major renewable transaction since its merger with Star Energy Storage Solutions. It reflects a strategic shift toward an integrated power trading and energy aggregation model—unprecedented in Taiwan's energy market. Star Trade, Taiwan’s third-largest electricity retailer, expects to exceed 650 MW of externally procured green electricity by the end of 2025, supplying industrial and commercial clients in key sectors such as semiconductors, finance, and manufacturing.

Lightsource bp emphasized its commitment to aligning global sustainability goals with local progress, while Star Trade reiterated its focus on delivering flexible and high-value renewable energy solutions. The collaboration also strengthens HDRE Group’s long-term goal of expanding internationally and advancing Taiwan’s clean energy transition through innovation and partnerships.
