Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Launches “Solar Sakhi Abhiyan” to Promote Rooftop Solar Adoption

Oct 11, 2025

Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) has unveiled the Solar Sakhi Abhiyan, a pioneering initiative aimed at women empowerment and clean energy adoption, in line with the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The program was inaugurated at Pooth Khurd Village during the festive occasion of Navratri.

The launch was attended by key dignitaries, including Neeraj Semwal, Secretary (Power), GNCTD; Ravi Dadhich, Special Secretary (Power); Kumar Abhishek, District Magistrate (North); Anju Aman Dabas, Hon’ble Councillor; Dwijadas Basak, CEO, Tata Power-DDL; along with senior officials from Tata Power-Delhi Distribution, village representatives, and community members.

At the heart of the campaign are 100 trained women volunteers, called Solar Sakhis, who will act as ambassadors of solar energy across more than 75 villages served by Tata Power-Delhi Distribution. These volunteers are tasked with educating households on the benefits of rooftop solar systems, spreading awareness about clean energy solutions, and bridging the gap between government renewable energy schemes and local communities. Each Solar Sakhi has been provided a distinctive jacket, symbolizing leadership, pride, and recognition.

Commenting on the initiative, Neeraj Semwal stated,

"The Delhi government is committed to promoting renewable energy and inclusive development. Programs like the Solar Sakhi Abhiyan ensure that women, as key pillars of society, play a central role in promoting rooftop solar adoption. This initiative will reduce reliance on conventional energy and support our broader mission of sustainable development."

Driven through TPDDL’s Village Customer Group (VCG) Solar, the campaign emphasizes women’s participation in sustainable development while contributing to India’s clean energy goals.

Anju Aman Dabas, Hon’ble Councillor of Pooth Khurd, added,

"Tata Power-Delhi Distribution has been actively promoting sustainability through rooftop solar awareness campaigns. The Solar Sakhi initiative is a significant step towards women-centric development and environmental responsibility. Our village is proud to host the launch of such a meaningful program."

Dwijadas Basak, CEO of TPDDL, highlighted,

"Our vision is to combine sustainability with inclusivity. The Solar Sakhi Abhiyan exemplifies Tata Power-Delhi Distribution’s commitment to women-led initiatives. By empowering women to become solar energy ambassadors, we are shaping community leaders who will guide villages toward a cleaner and brighter future."

Kiran Gupta, Chief—Customer Experience, Commercial & Government Affairs, TPDDL, added,

"The Solar Sakhi Abhiyan is a major stride toward sustainable and inclusive growth. Women-led solar awareness will drive renewable energy adoption, reduce dependence on conventional power, and inspire households to embrace a greener tomorrow."

With this initiative, Tata Power-Delhi Distribution continues to strengthen its role in promoting clean energy, sustainable development, and women’s empowerment in Delhi’s communities.
