Tata Power Solar Leads Rooftop Market as India Sees Record 86% Growth in 2024
May 22, 2025
India added 3.2 GW of rooftop solar capacity in 2024, marking an 86% surge over 2023, according to Mercom India’s Solar Market Leaderboard 2025. This growth was largely driven by the residential segment, aided by the PM–Surya Ghar initiative. However, progress in the final quarter slowed due to delays from domestic content requirement (DCR) policies and technical issues in the DCR verification portal. By December 2024, India’s cumulative rooftop solar capacity reached 13.7 GW.
Tata Power Solar led the rooftop market with a 19.4% share, reflecting a robust 37.9% year-over-year growth. Roofsol Energy ranked second with a 4% share and 82.3% growth, focused on industrial sectors like auto components, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. Mahindra Solarize followed in third place (2.4% share), boosted by commercial and industrial deployments.
Gentari (formerly Amplus Solar) dropped to fourth due to a 51.4?cline in installations. Kalpa Power entered the top five for the first time, gaining 1.8% market share through strong execution in sectors such as chemicals, construction, and education. Collectively, these top five companies accounted for nearly 30% of India’s rooftop solar market in 2024.
