TERI Champions Rooftop Solar and Storage Solutions for Assam at iFOREST-APDCL Workshop

TERI participated as a key stakeholder in the “Accelerating Solar Rooftop in Assam” workshop, held on June 20, 2025, in Guwahati. The event was jointly organized by the International Forum for Environment, Sustainability & Technology (iFOREST) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). Mr. Er. Alekhya Datta, Associate Director at TERI, contributed to the session on policy and institutional enablers for rooftop solar in Assam. Discussions centered around aligning state vision with incentive frameworks and implementation strategies, particularly under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY).

Speakers including Mr. Sachin Singh and Dr. Pranab emphasized the importance of improving residential rooftop adoption. TERI highlighted state-specific challenges and recommended urgent interventions, such as easing bank loan access for marginalized groups, raising public awareness, and enhancing conversion rates. Mr. Datta also announced an MNRE, CEA, and Shakti Foundation-backed study by TERI on the viability of behind-the-meter (BTM) battery storage for rooftop solar—targeting improved reliability and reduced power procurement costs for discoms in Assam and Bihar.

Further, TERI engaged with Arup Sarmah, CEO of New and Green Energy of Assam Ltd, to discuss battery deployment strategies under the GIZ-led StoREin project, aiming to integrate storage at key substations across the state.
