TERI to Host Workshop on Reassessing India’s Solar Potential – Estimates May Surpass 10,000 GWp

Jun 09, 2025

As part of its efforts to support India’s net-zero ambitions by 2070, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) will host a workshop on June 10, 2025, to present findings from its latest macro-level study reassessing the country’s solar potential. The study suggests that India’s solar capacity could be significantly higher than the currently estimated 748 GW, potentially reaching ~10,000 GWp—key to meeting the projected electricity demand surge from 15,000 TWh to 22,000 TWh.

Titled “Reassessment of Solar Potential in India: A Macro-level Study,” the hybrid event will be held at TERI HQ in New Delhi from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM IST. It will convene experts, policymakers, and researchers to explore the strategic role of solar energy in India’s energy transition. Participants can join in person or virtually through the provided link.

The session reflects growing recognition of solar energy’s importance in addressing rising power demand, decarbonizing the grid, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Organized in collaboration with stakeholders including MNRE, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and sector leaders like Dr. Vibha Dhawan and A.K. Saxena, this initiative seeks to align policy action with emerging energy realities.
