Torrent Power Proposes Rs3,110 Cr Investment to Modernise Power Supply in Nagpur
Aug 05, 2025
Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has proposed a Rs3,110 crore investment over five years to develop a modern power distribution network in Nagpur and its surrounding rural areas. The company has submitted a business plan seeking a power distribution license to serve the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) region — including divisions like Civil Lines, Congress Nagar, Gandhibaugh, and Mahal — along with MIDC, Mouda, and Umred in rural zones.
TPL's proposal includes a Universal Service Obligation (USO), ensuring electricity access even to low-consumption consumers. Importantly, the company promises a 5–7% tariff reduction compared to current rates charged by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), aiming to provide both affordable and reliable power. A public hearing regarding the license is scheduled for Tuesday. The plan represents Torrent Power’s growing footprint in India’s power sector and is seen as a move towards increasing efficiency and competition in distribution.
