Trina Storage and FlexGen Deploy 371 MWh Battery Storage System in Texas, Marking North American Milestone
Apr 26, 2025
Trina Storage, in collaboration with energy software provider FlexGen, has deployed a 371 MWh battery energy storage system in Houston, Texas — its largest grid-scale project in North America. Developed by SMT Energy, the project aims to meet the surging energy demands from data centers, AI technologies, and broader electrification trends. It showcases Trina’s advanced Elementa 2 solution, designed for optimal energy performance, operational risk mitigation, and long-term asset reliability.
FlexGen is responsible for system integration and provides its HybridOS™ energy management software, which supports predictive maintenance, fault detection, and enhanced operational control. By pre-integrating the systems in FlexGen's Durham Innovation Lab, the collaboration ensures faster deployment and improved performance from day one.
This project also features participation from major financial players like Macquarie and KeyBank, reflecting investor trust in the system's viability and long-term returns. Trina Storage’s Vice President Terry Chen emphasized the project's importance in solidifying their presence in the North American market and underlined their focus on de-risking energy storage investments.
SMT Energy’s leadership praised the union of world-class technologies, calling it a model for reliable, bankable, and high-performance energy storage. Trina will showcase further solutions at the upcoming ACP Cleanpower event in Phoenix, Arizona, continuing its expansion in the region.
