UP Invites Bids for 2,000 MW Pumped Hydro Storage

Apr 22, 2025

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) is looking to buy 2,000 MW of pumped hydro storage capacity. These projects will run for 40 years and must supply power for 8 hours daily, with a maximum of 6 hours continuously. Developers will build, own, operate, and maintain the facilities.

Interested companies must submit their bids by May 16, 2025. The bids will be opened on May 19. To participate, bidders need to pay fees like Rs500,000 per MW as a deposit, Rs11,800 each for the tender document and processing, and Rs20,000 as a bidding fee (excluding GST). If selected, a performance guarantee of Rs12 lakh per MW must be provided, valid for 12 months after the project starts.

The work includes everything from surveying to construction, testing, and maintenance. Developers must get all legal approvals and complete financing within 36 months. Delays will lead to daily penalties of 0.2% of the performance security, up to 120 days.

Bidders must follow specific technical rules and show documents like CEA-approved reports and proof of technical readiness. So far, the Central Electricity Authority has approved six pumped hydro projects across five states totaling 7.5 GW, showing strong national support for this technology.
