Websol Energy Doubles Solar Cell Capacity to 1.2 GW, Announces Multi-GW Expansion
Oct 01, 2025
Websol Energy System, a Kolkata-based solar cell and module manufacturer, has commissioned its new 600 MW Mono PERC solar cell line at its Falta facility in West Bengal, doubling its solar cell manufacturing capacity to 1.2 GW. The facility also houses a 550 MW module line, making Websol a stronger player in India’s integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem. The new line was funded entirely through internal accruals, highlighting the company’s robust cash flow and conservative financial strategy.
During commissioning, operations at the existing line were paused for eight days, causing a one-time revenue impact in Q2 FY2026. However, production has since resumed with the additional line now operational. Managing Director Sohan Lal Agarwal said the expansion strengthens Websol’s goal of developing a high-efficiency, cell-to-module value chain aligned with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Looking ahead, Websol’s board has approved a Rs3,000 crore phased expansion plan through a subsidiary to add 4 GW of solar cells and 4 GW of modules. This includes 2 GW each of cell and module capacity by June 2027 (Phase III) and another 2 GW each by June 2028 (Phase IV). The upcoming lines will adopt TOPCon technology, advancing efficiency and competitiveness.
