Sunsure Energy Partners with Wonder Cement for 30 MWp Solar Power Supply via Open-Access PPAs
Apr 08, 2026
Sunsure Energy has entered into three long-term solar open-access power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Wonder Cement to supply a total of 30 MWp of renewable energy. The power will be sourced from projects located in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, contributing to an estimated annual reduction of 33,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Under this collaboration, renewable power is already being supplied to Wonder Cement’s facilities in Dhule, Maharashtra, and Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The energy is being generated from Sunsure’s solar plants in Solapur (150 MWp) and Augasi (49 MWp). This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the share of clean energy in the company’s operations.
With the implementation of these agreements, Wonder Cement aims to replace around 67% of its electricity consumption at the Dhule plant and approximately 52% at its Aligarh facility with solar power. This transition will reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity and strengthen the company’s sustainability efforts.
The partnership is also expected to deliver substantial environmental benefits, with emissions reductions equivalent to planting nearly 1.5 million trees annually. This aligns with Wonder Cement’s broader strategy of integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind into its operations.
Commenting on the development, Kiran Patil, Managing Director of Wonder Cement, highlighted the company’s focus on sustainability and its commitment to reducing environmental impact through increased adoption of clean energy solutions. He noted that the continued collaboration with Sunsure Energy supports their long-term low-carbon goals.
Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Sunsure Energy, emphasized that the repeat agreements reflect strong trust in the company’s execution capabilities. He added that supporting large industrial players like Wonder Cement in transitioning to renewable energy remains a key priority for Sunsure.
He further stated that the cement industry plays a crucial role in India’s economic growth, and its shift toward cleaner energy will be instrumental in driving sustainable development. Sunsure expressed its intent to continue supporting Wonder Cement in its renewable energy journey through future collaborations.
Currently, Sunsure Energy operates around 700 MW of assets and has a pipeline of approximately 7.1 GW under development across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. The company is targeting a total capacity of 10 GW by 2030.
