Topsun Energy Secures PGCIL Contract for 2.1 MW Standalone Solar Project with 1.2 MWh Battery Storage

Topsun Energy has emerged as the winning bidder in Power Grid Corporation of India’s (PGCIL) auction for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for an off-grid solar power project integrated with battery energy storage at the Pang voltage source converter (VSC) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) station in Ladakh.
The project involves setting up a 2.1 MW standalone solar power plant coupled with a 300 kW/1,200 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The total contract value for the project is estimated at Rs 96.3 million (approximately $1.05 million). The tender for the project was issued in May 2025.
Solluz Energy and Suryam International were the other bidders that qualified in the auction process.
Under the contract, Topsun Energy will be responsible for end-to-end project execution, including system design, detailed engineering, procurement and supply of equipment, factory-level testing, and on-site erection, testing, and commissioning of the solar-plus-storage facility.
The scope of work also includes the supply and integration of DC/DC converters, solar inverters or power conditioning units, a solar management system, an energy management system, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and a weather monitoring station. In addition, Topsun Energy will design, fabricate, and assemble a fully functional and transportable battery energy storage system.
The project mandates the use of mono-crystalline and bifacial solar modules. Topsun Energy will also carry out geotechnical and topographical surveys, earthworks, fencing, internal road development, foundation construction for panels and equipment, and the building of an equipment room at the site.
PGCIL is currently developing a 350 kV, 5,000 MW VSC-HVDC transmission corridor from Pang in Ladakh to Kaithal in Haryana to evacuate nearly 13 GW of renewable energy capacity, including 9 GW of solar, 4 GW of wind, and 12 GWh of battery storage.
To meet the construction power requirements at the Pang HVDC station, PGCIL planned this 2,100 kW off-grid solar project with integrated battery storage, with provisions for future grid connectivity.
