Madhya Pradesh to Finalise Agreements for 4,000 MW Thermal Power Capacity

Jan 28, 2026

The Madhya Pradesh government is set to sign three agreements on Tuesday to add 4,000 MW of thermal power capacity, marking a significant step toward strengthening the state’s power generation infrastructure.

According to Neeraj Mandloi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and the Energy Department, the bidding process for the proposed thermal power projects has been completed by MP Power Management Company Limited under the Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) model.

Under the tender process, developers have been selected for 3,200 MW, while an additional 800 MW has been awarded through the greenshoe option, Mandloi said.

Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar stated that the projects are expected to attract direct investments of approximately Rs 60,000 crore. He added that the initiative would generate around 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect employment opportunities, providing a boost to the state’s economy.

As per the allocations, Hindustan Thermal Projects Limited has been awarded 800 MW, Torrent Power Limited will develop 1,600 MW, and Adani Power Limited has received 800 MW, along with an additional 800 MW under the greenshoe option.

The upcoming projects are aimed at enhancing Madhya Pradesh’s base-load power capacity to meet growing electricity demand and ensure long-term energy security.
