NLC India Limited and National Aluminium Company Limited Forge Alliance for 1,200 MW Captive Power Project

Feb 16, 2026

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) to jointly advance a proposed 1,200 MW thermal captive power project while also broadening collaboration in renewable energy development.

The agreement establishes a structured framework for cooperation aimed at meeting NALCO’s captive and long-term electricity requirements through reliable, cost-efficient, and sustainable power solutions. Alongside the thermal project, the partnership will explore renewable energy opportunities to support cleaner energy integration.

The MoU also provides scope for long-term power supply arrangements, including captive and group captive models. Additionally, it outlines potential long-term coal supply mechanisms to ensure fuel security for identified projects. Both entities may consider joint project execution, including the possibility of forming a joint venture company for future developments.

The agreement was formalised in the presence of senior leadership from both organisations, underscoring the strategic importance of the collaboration.

The partnership reflects inter-CPSE cooperation focused on optimising national resources, reinforcing energy security, and supporting India’s industrial expansion and sustainability goals. It also aligns with NLCIL’s broader capacity-building and diversification strategy in both thermal and renewable energy segments.
