Adani Power Forms Nuclear Energy Subsidiary Amid Sector Opening
Feb 14, 2026
Adani Power on Thursday announced the incorporation of a dedicated nuclear energy subsidiary, signaling its formal entry into India’s newly liberalized atomic power segment. The company has established Adani Atomic Energy Ltd to undertake activities related to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity produced from nuclear sources.
The development makes Adani Power one of the first privately owned utilities to publicly declare its interest in participating in the country’s expanding nuclear power landscape. While specific project details were not disclosed, the move aligns with the broader policy shift encouraging greater private sector involvement in atomic energy.
India is gradually opening its nuclear sector to support rising electricity demand and advance decarbonization goals. The government has outlined plans to significantly scale up nuclear capacity in the coming decades as part of its clean energy transition strategy.
At present, the nation’s nuclear power assets are owned and operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), which manages a total installed capacity of approximately 8.8 GW. The entry of private players is expected to complement public sector efforts in expanding low-carbon baseload power generation.
